Like all of the east valley, Mesa is an old farm community that has since turned into one of the largest cities in Arizona. It is situated just east of Tempe, South of the Salt River Indian Community and north of Gilbert and Chandler.

Mesa has been the suburban center of Arizona for many years and was the first city to truly take that role with pride. The older parts of Mesa have great homes that were built in the 1950's-60's and 70's, that have many citrus trees and irrigated yards. Not too many people know this, but Arizona has been a large producer of citrus for the world and Mesa was one of the many communities to take part in that honor. Since then, the farm land has been sold to developers who have built medium priced homes for the community.

Mesa is still growing today. Many new homes are being built in the North/North Eastern part of Mesa towards Red Mountain. They are actually completing a new freeway (Red Mountain Freeway) that will cross the entire north side of Mesa and connect directly into the I-10 and straight to downtown Phoenix. If traffic is light, you can get to downtown Phoenix in a matter of 20 minutes. The central and southern side of Mesa are the areas that have already been developed and hold some of the great older communities that Mesa has to offer.

Schools in Mesa

Mesa schools are great schools that usually rank high in testing scores. However there seems to be a trend of high levels of diversity in each school. The facilities in the Mesa School district are a mix of old and new. If you are moving to the north part of town, you will probably be going to a newer school and if you are in the middle to south part of Mesa, you will probably be going to an older facility.
